"A new kind of urethane finishing material is showing up on paint-store shelves. It's a no-fooling, rugged varnish, but instead of merely coating and protecting, it adds color to the projects you use them on. The product name is Tuf (for transparent urethane finish) and it's made by National Solvent Corp., Cleveland.
You'll think of a colored varnish first as a finish for wood, and actually that's where it works best. But since it is a transparent colored coating, it works also to give color to transparent materials like glass and plastic, and to bright metals such as aluminum, nickel, etc.
Where it works best. You'll like the results best when you use colored varnish on light-colored woods. It is excellent on pine. It gives fir plywood a quality nothing else can produce. It's good on oak, maple, birch. But it is not good on dark woods, such as walnut and mahogany - where, in fact, it destroys their natural beauty." As stated in the April 1971 issue of Popular Science Magazine. NOTE: for more information go to Google books at https://books.google.com/books?id=kwAAAAAAMBAJ pages 101, 134.
We have Tuf pine green available in another listing.
